New Knoxville Tops Fort Loramie, Botkins and Anna In Invitation­al

It was a close and exciting meet for Coaches Gene Fries and Ken Ruth which ended with the New Knoxville Rangers defeating Fort Loramie by three points in the New Knoxville Invitation­al Track meet yesterday. The Rangers scored 77 1/2 points and Fort Loramie Redskins tallied 74 1/2. The fight for third spot was equally exciting for the Botkins and Anna coaches. Botkins came in third with 42. Anna scored 40 in the meet.

This is the third consecutiv­e year the four teams have competed in the NK Invitation­al. The Rangers won the first year, Fort Loramie the second and New Knoxville won the championsh­ip trophy again this year.

Scoring in the Invitation­al is 6, 4, 3, 2, and 1, points for the top five places. Relays are 6,4, and 3.

Fort Loramie captured five firsts and tied with New Knoxville for another. The Rangers had four firsts and the tie. The Rangers scored five second place positions and Fort Loramie two.

The Fort Loramie team took the one mile relay and Botkins the 880 relay.

Matt Reier of New Knoxville ran the mile in 5:01.8 and Keith Howe the half mile in 2:15.6. Bob Harrod threw the discus 113’7” to take the first place and Mark Henschen re

corded the highest jump of 5’4”.

Steve Prueter of New Knoxville and Gaier of Fort Loramie tied for first in the 189 yard low hurdles in 23.2 seconds.

St. Marys Brochure Gives In Compact Form Pertinent Facts About City, Its Utilities And Other Facilities

How much do you about St. Marys utilities?

Do you know the capacity of the city water treatment plant? The Water Pollution Control Plant? The Municipal Power Plant?

Facts and figures concerning all three utilities are included in the city’s brochure prepared by the Dale Grimes, Jr., St. Marys Industrial and Developmen­t Manager, for sending to companies interested in relocating or expansion.

St. Marys has four deep water wells with a capacity of 2,800 gallons per minute or 4 million gallons per day. The well capacity is 4 million gallons per day, the softening and filtration capacity 2.4 million gallons per day, the peak load of the plant to date 1.78 million gallons per day, the elevated storage 500,000 gallons, the undergroun­d storage 700,000 gallons.

St. Marys raw water has 500 parts hardness per million. The treated water has 100 parts.

Our water pollution control plant has a capacity of 2 million gallons per day with the average flow .95 million.

The St. Marys municipal power plant has a capacity of 20,000 kilowatts with a peak load of 9,200 kilowatts in July, 1969. The peak load has been 6,000 kilowatts since May, 1970 when Weston Paper Manufactur­ing Company ceased operations and discontinu­ed use of city power.

Ron Howe, Native Of New Knoxville, Awarded JC DSA

New Knoxville, April 13 — Ron Howe, Gas City, Indiana, formerly of New Knoxville, was name recipient of the coveted Distinguis­hed Service Award during the Jaycees fourth annual DSA banquet, held recently.

The DSA, awarded for outstandin­g service to the community, was presented by last year’s recipient.

The DSA recipient is named by a disinteres­ted committee of non-Jaycees who bee their selection on service rendered to the community as a whole by a person under 35.

Ron, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Chic) Howe, of New Knoxville, and former Eagle Scout, has been active in numerous Jaycee committees and projects. He is a government and economics teacher at Mississine­wa High School. Last summer he served as a sponsor of the Jaycee Junior Golf Tournament and presently is chairman of the “Do Something” project.

He has served on the “Dollars for Scholars” board of directors since the organizati­on was founded and has served as president for the past two years.

Howe is Hi-Y sponsor at Mississine­wa High School, where he has taught for eight years, and is a member of the Gas City Methodist Church.

He is presently internal vice president of the Jaycees.

Ron and his wife, Patricia, school nurse, have on daughter, Christa.

Veteran Groups Join To Promote Benefit Dance

Veterans’ organizati­ons of

Auglaize County are combining their effort in sponsoring a benefit dance, proceeds of which will be donated to the Auglaize School for Retarded Children.

The dance will take place Saturday, May 15 at 8 p.m. until ?? at the Auglaize County Fair Grounds. Four bands will provide continuous music. Refreshmen­ts will be available.

Highlight the event will be awarding of a door prize of $50. Tickets are now on sale from various organizati­ons for $1.

Planning the benefit dance are Dick Disney, Commander of VFW Post 8445, Wapakoneta, John marker, Joe Steinke, M. Berning and Jack Acheson, all of Wapakoneta; Tom Gabel, Rueben Holtkamp and Carl Schrolucke, all of American Legion Post 444, New Knoxville; Carl also represents 40 et 8; Jim Taylor, commander, Lewis Meeker, Tom Weimert, Dale Duncan, Jim Lynch and Charles Hurd of Robert Lee Griner VFW Post 9289, St. Marys; Lean Philipot and Robert Doseck, representi­ng the DAV; W.C. Searfoss, commander of the Waynesfiel­d American Legion Post No. 395; Jerry Lutterbeck, representi­ng the New Bremen American Legion and Bill Farno, Spark Baumer, VFW commander, and Joe Miller, representi­ng both the Minster VFW and American Legion Post.
