Cards get baseball victories

NEW BREMEN -New Bremen defeated visiting Jackson Center 10-1 in a non league baseball game on Friday.

Nick Alig pitched six innings to earn the victory for the Cardinals. He allowed six hits and walked two, while recording six strikeouts. Wyatt Dicke pitched the seventh, walking one and striking out two.

Mitchell Hays had a triple and single. Several other players had hits. Vince Hulse and Dicke each had two RBIs.

The Cardinals grabbed the lead in the first. Alig walked, then stole his way to third. and scored on a single by Blickle. Three straight walks forced in Blickle with the second run, and another to Hules pushed Sam Sailer across.

Jackson Center scored a run in the second.

The game remained close until the sixth. Sailer and Kyle Tenkman walked to open the frame, and Colton Muether bunted his way on to load the bases.

Jackson Center then plunked Hulse, forcing in a run, and Tenkman scored on a wild pitch. Another hit batter reload the bags, with Muether and Hulse scoring on a hit by Dicke.

After a pitching change, a groundout and error gave the Cards two more. A 10th run was scored by Blickle on an error.

The Cards then blanked the Tigers in the final two frames for the win.

New Bremen 7, St. John’s 2

DELPHOS -- New Bremen defeated St. John’s in a nonleague contest on Thursday.

Ben Blickle threw a complete game to get the win. He allowed two runs on five hits and three walks, with five strikeouts.

Mitchell Hays hit a home run, Nick Alig had a double and single, and Colton Muether doubled.

Alig led off the game

with his double, and scored on a hit by Blickle to center. After a walk to Sam Sailer, Blickle was forced out on a play at third, with Kyle Tenkman reaching safely.

Muether’s double to left then scored Sailer, with Tenkman coming in as the ball was mishandled. Muether advanced to third, then made it 4-0 on a single by Vince Hulse.

St. John’s got a run in their first at bat by loading the bases on an

error, double and walk. Another error then allowed a run to score.

Alig reached on a fielder’s choice in the second, then stole second and third. Another error on a grounder by Blickle allowed Alig to score.

The score remained that way until the top of the sixth. Ben Wells led off with a single. He advanced to third on a sacrifice and groundout, then was able to trot home after Hays hit a 1-0 pitch for a home run to center.

St. John’s got a run in the sixth, but the Cardinals

defense permitted nothing else.

Fort Recovery 11, New Knoxville 0

FORT RECOVERY -- Fort Recovery shut out New Knoxville 11-0 in a Midwest Athletic Conference game on Thursday.

Jay Waterman had the only hit for the Rangers.

Patrick Covert was the losing pitcher, allowing 11 runs on 10 hits in six innings. He struck out six.

The Indians scored three in the second, one in the fourth, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth.
