10 Years Ago (2011) The Minster ACME team fared well in the second round of the state ACME tournament with an 8-3 victory over Toledo Central Catholic. The Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the second inning and added two in the fourth and three more scores in the fifth, forcing their opponents to play from behind all evening. Devon Poeppelman pitched into the sixth inning before Austin Knapke pushed them out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam. Adam Niemeyer pitched a scoreless seventh inning to finish off the triumph and help his team improve to 17-6 on the summer.

25 Years Ago (1996)

The St. Marys Little League All-Star team captured a district tournament title after coming out of the eliminatio­n bracket and posting a 3-1 victory over Maumee. The triumph propelled the youngsters to the state Little League tournament the following weekend. The Roughrider­s got a twoRBI double from Chris Anderson in the third frame to pull in front 3-0 while starting pitcher, Nathan Homan, threw a complete game and allowed just four hits to earn the win.

50 Years Ago (1971)

The St. Marys PONYLeague­rs were in action with the Reds downing the Pirates 13-2 and the Cardinals edging the Tigers by a final of 109. The Reds powered their way to victory with 14 base hits and stellar pitching from Denny Wiehe, who hurled a two-hitter in the contest.

Denny Lauth connected for a home run and two doubles, while Jeff Bowersock and Dale Whetstone added three base hits apiece in the Reds’ win. In the nightcap, Rod Selby earned the win for the Cardinals after striking out seven batsmen, while Danny Neiferd collected a pair of base hits.
