Looking for some Homecoming luck

- By MIKE FRANK

Howdy y’all. Come on in and set a spell.

The crystal ball was a little clearer, especially in the NFL ranks, as I went 13-7 for the week.

That puts me at a nice round 50-30 for the season to date.

We will now move into October. The high school postseason is now less than a month away. Before we get there, things have to be settled in the leagues. The WBL is still a big pack. Over in the MAC, Coldwater and Marion Local are a couple weeks away from their meeting in week nine.

The Buckeyes will be hitting the road this week. So will I, but my destination will be dear old Latrobe, Pa., home of Saint Vincent College. This is Homecoming weekend there and I look forward to joining my classmates of 1996 for our 25th reunion. Haven’t been there in a few years so it will be nice to stroll the campus and check out any new additions.

Time to head off to seventh heaven:

WBL

St. Marys (4-2) at Kenton (0-6) — I know there aren’t point spreads for high school games. But if there were, this one would have a large one. The goal for the Riders is get the win and avoid injuries…..ST. MARYS by 21

Elida (4-2) at Wapakoneta (4-2) — By contrast, this game should be a pretty good affair. Redskins’ offense continues to roll. Three of Elida’s wins are Kenton, Celina, and Defiance, so I’m not sure they have enough to get it done here….WAPAKONETA by 10

Bath (4-2) at Defiance (2-4) — ‘Cats and ‘Dogs go at it up north. Boys from Bible Road have won three of the last four, so momentum is on their side….BATH by 14

Van Wert (5-1) at Shawnee (4-2) — Shawnee looking to rebound after two straight losses, while the Cougars want to stay atop of the WBL pyramid. Indians’ win would really jumble the league race, but VW has the bigger horses…. VAN WERT by 10

MAC

New Bremen (4-2) at Minster (0-5) — Cardinals came up just a little short against Versailles. Minster still looking for a win. I’m sure this rivalry has seen its share of drama, but don’t expect much Friday…NEW BREMEN by 21

Anna (3-3) at Versailles (5-1) — Tigers will keep the Rockets grounded, and the rest of their schedule should favor them as well….. VERSAILLES by 14

Coldwater (6-0) at St. Henry (4-2) — The Redskins have had a couple big wins after losing to Marion Local. The Cavs will keep on riding……. COLDWATER by 14

NCAA

#5 Iowa (4-0) at Maryland (4-0) — Including this one simply so I can say that NCAA should stop trying to play on Friday nights. That is high school territory, so knock it off. As for the game, Hawkeyes are contenders, Terps are pretenders….IOWA

#11 Ohio State (31) at Rutgers (3-1) — Pollsters remain unimpressed with Buckeyes. Stroud may or may not return this week. Personally, I like what I saw from Kyle McCord…. OHIO STATE

#7 Cincinnati (3-0) at #9 Notre Dame (40) — Very happy to see Luke Fickell doing well with the Bearcats. Since that’s also the nickname for St. Vincent, we’ll go with them……CINCINNATI

NFL

Jacksonville (0-3) at Cincinnati (2-1) — Time for serious payback by Joe Burrow against Urban for not starting him at OSU…. CINCINNATI

Houston (1-2) at Buffalo (2-1) — Texans are a mess, and Taylor will lose to one of his former teams….BUFFALO

Detroit (0-3) at Chicago (1-2) — Loss here could be the end of the Matt Nagy era…..DETROIT

Cleveland (2-1) at Minnesota (1-2) — Browns come off a thrashing of Chicago to face another NFC North team. This won’t be as easy, but….CLEVELAND

Kansas City (1-2) at Philadelphia (1-2) — Andy Reid faces his old team. Both are struggling. Eagles rebound after loss to Dallas….. PHILADELPHIA
