Auglaize NFO Member Hear Nat’l. Vice President Of NFA Stress Necessity For Block Selling

“Farmers Didn’t Get Paid” was the keynote address given by Erhard Pfingsten, National NFO vice president, at the annual banquet of the Auglaize Coy NFO held at the Union Hall.

Mr. Pfingsten stated that the nation’s’ wealth is created only from God-given elements of which 30 percent are mineral and 70 percent, agriculture. This with facts taken from the U.S. Government records,

showed that for each dollar the farmer is underpaid, the economy loses $1 to $3.64. One of the illustrations Mr. Pfingsten made was that in 1951 when the economy was in balance, 353,000 tractors were made and sold. In 1961, farm prices had dipped, and only 17,000 tractors were made and sold. This caused a loss of sales profit, labor, steel sales, rubber sales, and all of the other necessities need to make tractors, the speaker said.

Mr. Pfingsten strongly emphasized that the farmers have the food first and have more power than labor and industry combined if they would become block sellers instead of selling individually.

Following his address the meeting was opened for questions. Mr. Pfingsten answered questions on political matters, price freeze, anti-trust suits etc.

Door prizes were given to Roger Dicke, Mrs. Stanley Wilcox, Ed Roetgerman, Maurice Schmiesing, Mrs. John Prenger, Jr., Mrs. Anthony Albers, Leonard Heitkamp, Vernon Steinke, Pearl Moon, Leo Buehler, Roy Matger, Robert Nedderman, Fr. Miller, Mike Steinke and Leonard Schmitmeyer.

St. Marys Rams Lose To Van Wert Mustangs 24-8 In Game Played Here

Due to unfavorable playing field conditions at Van Wert the Midget League football game between the St. Marys Rams and the Van Wert Mustangs was transferred to Memorial Field, where these two teams played at 3:00 p.m. The Mustangs won 248.

The Mustangs came to town with a rambling offense and rolled over the Rams 24 to 8. Van Wert won the toss of the coin and elected to receive the kick-off to start the game but couldn’t move the ball on the first series of downs. A bad snap of the ball on a kicking situation resulted in a Rams recovery at the Van Wert 18 yard line but they could not take advantage of the good field position as the Mustang defense held. The visitors then took charge, moving the pigskin all the way down the field, scoring on a 37 yard run for their first TD. The conversion run was also good making the score 8 to 0. The first quarter ended with the ball in the Rams possession.

The second period started in much the same way as the first as the Rams could not generate any offense, giving up the ball to their opponents. Again the visitors started down field, pounding out numerous first downs, hitting paydirt for the second time. The PAT conversion run was good, for two | more points, giving them a 16 to 0 lead.

The second half started with St. Marys receiving and taking over the football at mid-field. Once again the Van Wert defense held as they recovered a fumble on the 43 and in 7 plays moved in for their third score. The PAT was good and the score went to 24 to 0.

In the fourth quarter the Rams offense began to show some life and began moving the football. A 35 yard end run took the ball down to the 5 yard line where they rammed over for their first score of the afternoon.

The PAT run was also good for the final points of the day. Van Wert Mustangs 24, St. Marys Rams 8.

The Mustangs had a total offense of 256 yards while the Rams had 116 yards. This leaves the Rams with a record of one win and two losses.
