People looking to learn a few art skills and spend some time with friends are able to do both at the Snowman Glow event being hosted by Simple Things Crafting on Nov. 10.

Liz Oberinger, the store-runner of Simple Things Crafting, is hosting what she calls a “paint party” where people come in and learn how to paint in a relaxed environment. Equipping participants with a 12 x 12-inch canvas, she’s hoping to provide and interesting class.

“It is an instructor-led class,” said Oberinger. The class will be made into small class sizes and Oberinger plans on starting at 6 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m. “You can bring your friend, you can bring your SMORA drinks in and enjoy the evening of painting and fun time with friends.”

The classes will be small, easygoing and individualized between groups so that everyone can have a good time. It is being made for beginners, with the main focus being on doing something fun and being creative among other people.

This isn’t the only time Oberinger has held these types of classes.

“I hold them probably a couple of times a month,” stated Oberinger. Simple Things has only been open since April and she also works a full time job as a nurse, but she does try to make time for it. “I’ll do a kid’s class maybe once or twice a month. A lot of times I’ll do private events also.”

The classes vary in price, but the Nov. 10 event is being put up for about $25 per person, with tickets available for purchase on the store’s Facebook page. Anyone that wants to join should consider purchasing

now, especially since those that participate get to keep their painting.

Oberinger is happy to bring her expertise to the area, and she loves providing downtown St. Marys with several art classes, and will happily teach anyone for the right price. She has various different classes of different complexities or styles.

“We do wood painted projects too, so we have some wood clay project that has an etched design on it,” Oberinger said, giving an example on other things they offer at the shop. “So we have like a variety. It’s not just the canvas paints, we have a variety of options.”

Oberinger encourages anyone that wants to give it a try. Many people that come to her classes don’t believe in their art skills, but always leave with a pleasant surprise in how their work turns out. The classes are meant for anyone looking to have a little fun.

“I would say come in and try a class. They’re going to be surprised at what they can create,” said Oberinger about people who would come in. “The artist that is hidden way deep inside, they’ll be amazed at what blossoms during the class.”
