Minster powers past Ft. Recovery

FORT RECOVERY — Minster defeated Fort Recovery 8-2 in Midwest Athletic Conference softball play on Thursday.

Mikaela Hoskins threw six innings to get the win, with Gabrielle Wehrman tossing one inning of relief. Hoskins gave up two runs on five hits, with one walk. Wehrman allowed one hit.

Emma Goubeaux and Lyndi Hemmelgarn had home runs for the Lady Wildcats. Minster also had doubles by Hailee Albers, Hemmelgarn, Hannah Oldiges, Alayna Prenger and Rylin Trego, with 13 hits in all.

Hemmelgarn and Albers had two RBIs each, with others by Addi Inskeep, Hoskins, Goubeaux and Trego.

Hemmelgarn got things rolling right away, as she hit the first pitch of the game over the fence in left field.

After the Lady Indians scored in the bottom of the second to tie it, Hemmelgarn doubled in her second at-bat in the third. She scored on a single by Inskeep. Hoskins followed with an RBI single to right to make ti 3-1.

In the fourth, Albers led off with a single and later scored on a hit by Hemmelgarn. Minster added three more runs in the fifth, with a tworun double by Albers, then a two-base hit by Trego to bring Albers around.

Fort Recovery picked up one run in the bottom of the sixth, then Minster answered with its final tally in the seventh on a solo shot by Goubeaux to center.

Minster moves to 5-0 in league play and 16-2 overall. They will host the Katie Horstman Classic. Minster will play Eastwood at 6 p.m. and Bath or Russia at 8 p.m.

Marion Local 8, New Bremen 1

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen lost to visiting Marion Local in MAC play.

The game was scoreless through four innings. The Lady Flyers scored three in the fifth and five in the sixth. New Bremen got its run in the final at-bat.

Alayna Ross took the loss for New Bremen, allowing eight runs on 10 hits. She walked four and struck out nine.

Ashlyn Bohman was the winner, allowing four hits, walking none and getting 13 strikeouts.

Alivia Dammeyer had two doubles and a single, with one hit by Ella Pape. Lauren Homan drove in the run.

Both offenses were limited through the first four innings. In the top of the fifth, Marion Local got a pair of walks. An error allowed one run to score and a double brought in two more.

In the sixth, Marion Local got three hits and a sac bunt for one run. A walk loaded the bases, and a single and errors by New Bremen pushed it to eight runs.

Pape opened the seventh with a double. She took third on a groundout, then scored on a groundout by Homan. A strikeout ended the inning and the game.

New Bremen is now 1-4 in the league and 3-12 overall. They will play a doublehead­er against Fort Loramie on Saturday with the first game at 11 a.m. Seniors will be honored in between the contests.
