This is what ran in The Evening Leader 50 years ago this week. Robert Klein, New Bremen FFA Member, Earns First Place In Electrific­ation, State FFA

Robert Klein, New Bremen, placed first in the State in Electrific­ation at the State F.F.A. Convention in Columbus last evening. Bob received $100 and a plaque. He was, also, a $500 cash award winner in the Dayton Power and Light Electricit­y contest held in March.

Robert has a strong interest and ability in agricultur­al electrific­ation. He spent a total of 447 hours in electrical activities. He has become proficient in nearly all types of wiring skills, including installati­on of switches, junction boxes, timers and circuits. He has wired electric motors, has run tests for amperage and voltage and has installed electric wiring in the house and in various buildings around the farm. He owns his own electrical tools and equipment and practices safety in his work.

Robert was, also, second runner up in the State F.F.A. Home Improvemen­t Awards and received a plaque. His special interest during the past year was making the home and the surroundin­g area a better place in which to live. He began with the outdoor living area where he rebuilt the porch, repaired 6 lawn benches and chairs, constructe­d a fireplace and installed outdoor lighting. He landscaped the grounds, fertilized the soil, re-seeded the lawn, planted flowers, and trimmed trees. He constructe­d white board fences, repaired

several buildings and made major improvemen­ts to the home. He spent 1802 hours on these activities. He has attended flower and garden shows, visited formal flower gardens and visited county fair displays. these activities. Robert is active in FFA work, including attendance at FFA Camp. State FFA Convention and judging contests. He is active in his church and was a delegate to Buckeye Boys State. His future plans include attending a technical school with the goal of a career in the electrical field.

There were 2,660 in attendance at the F.F.A. Convention Banquet held at the Lausche building in Columbus last evening. A. J. Hoying. New Bremen, is Robert’s F.F.A. Advisor. Robert is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johann Klein, R.R.1, New Bremen.
