Roughrider­s defeat Kenton for first league win of season

KENTON — The St. Marys baseball team earned its first Western Buckeye League victory of the season by beating Kenton 9-1 on Friday.

Ethan Hollandswo­rth was the winning pitcher, working five innings. He allowed one run on four hits and three walks, with three strikeouts.

Ty Kiehl finished up, giving up one hit in two innings of work.

The Roughrider­s had 12 hits for the game, with three by Brayden Sullivan, one a double. Trey Leatherman, Greg Felver, Kiehl and Alex Yahl each had two hits.

Felver drove in two runs, while Cole Koenig, Sullivan, Leatherman, Kiehl and Yahl brought in one apiece.

After two scoreless innings, St. Marys scored three runs in the top of the third. Each side got a run in the fourth.

The Roughrider­s then added one in the sixth and four more in the seventh to secure the win.

St. Marys (1-7 WBL, 4-10 overall) will host St. Henry on Monday at 5 p.m.

Lima Central Catholic 3, Minster 2

LIMA — Minster fell to host Lima Central

Catholic in non league play on Friday, with the Thunderbir­ds scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Brandon Lickteig pitched six innings for Minster, allowing two runs on two hits. He walked three and struck out two. Brady Wolf gave up the winning run with two outs.

Logan Kohne had three hits and Wolf had two, Johnny Nixon drove in both runs for Minster.

LCC led off the second with a triple to center. The runner then scored on a groundout

to shortstop.

In the top of the third, Chase Couse singled and advanced to second on an error. After a flyout, a single by Nathan Beair moved Couse to third. Nixon brought Couse home with a sacrifice fly to center.

The fourth and fifth innings were scoreless. In the top of the sixth, Minster stranded one runner.

LCC used a walk, sacrifice bunt and a second base on balls to start the bottom half. Minster got an out on the next play, but the runner was able to score as a throw from third to first went to the fence in foul territory.

With two away in the seventh, Kohne doubled, took third on a wild pitch. After a walk to Beair, Nixon’s hit to left scored Kohne to tie the contest.

Wolf retired two of the first three LCC hitters, with a walk in between. The T-Birds then got a double to the gap in center to go home with the win.

Minster (3-4 MAC, 11-6 overall) will host Lehman Catholic on Monday.
