Softball playoff pairings announced

Mother Nature again interfered with the scholastic schedule on Tuesday as the regular season for softball winds to a close.

The pairings for the sectional and district tournament­s were released on Sunday.

In Division II, St. Marys has a record of 11-4 overall and 5-2 in the Western Buckeye League.

They have four games remaining — at Shawnee today, at Spencervil­le Friday, home against Bellefonta­ine next Monday and at Elida on Tuesday. (The Elida game was pushed back a week.) They will also participat­e in an invitation­al at Coldwater this Saturday.

Eight of the 10 WBL teams are in the University of Northwest Ohio sectional.

St. Marys is the #2 seed and will face the winner of the game between #6 Van Wert and #7 Celina. That contest will be one of four sectional finals on May 13, all at 5 p.m.

The other first round matchup is #10 Napoleon at #8 Shawnee. The winner will face top seed Bryan.

In the other sectional finals, it will be #5 Defiance at #4 Elida and #9 Kenton at #3 Bath.

The district semifinals will be May 19 at 4 and 6 p.m, and the district final is set for May 21 at noon.

Minster and New Bremen are in the same sectional in Division IV.

The Lady Wildcats are the top seed. They are 5-0 in Midwest Athletic Conference play and 16-5 overall. They have two games left — at Coldwater today and home against Versailles on Thursday.

Minster will take on the winner between #12 Waynesfiel­d-Goshen and #11 Spencervil­le in a sectional final on May 12 at 5 p.m.

New Bremen is the 10th seed and drew a first-round matchup with the #9 seed, Upper Scioto Valley. They will play next Monday at 5 p.m. The winner will take on #2 seed Crestview.

Other first-round games are #7 Marion Local at #5 St. Henry; #8 Ridgemont at #4 Fort Recovery; and #13 Perry at #6 Parkway.

Besides Minster and Crestview, #3 Lincolnvie­w also earned a firstround bye.

The district semifinals are May 17 and the district final will be May 20, all at Wapakoneta.

Regionals will be played from May 25-28, and the state tournament will be held June 2-4 at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
