WBL tennis tourney under way

LIMA — The Western Buckeye League boys tennis tournament held the opening rounds of play on Wednesday and Thursday.
In the first singles bracket, Joey Vanderhorst of St. Marys defeated Wapakoneta’s Connor Coffey, 7-5, 6-2 and then won over Bath’s Daniel Bolon, 6-4, 6-0. He will face Gabe Burke of Shawnee in the finals.
At second singles, the Roughriders’ Aristide Brasille won in the first round over Celina’s R.J. Veit by a score of 6-0, 6-0. He lost to Ezra Bolon
of Bath in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Brasille will play Ben Osmon of Elida in the third-place match.
Connor Milner of St. Marys defeated Wapakoneta’ Peyton Debell, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. In the semifinals, he lost to Mac Davis of Shawnee, 6-0, 6-0. He will take on Elida’s Dylan Byers in the match for third place.
At first doubles, Rhett Chisholm and Isaac Wibbeler got a win over Defiance’s Nate Blunt and Carter Campbell, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. They ar playing Shawnee’s Salah Muhammud and Gabe
Rutter of Shawnee in the semifinals.
The Roughriders’ second doubles pair of Cody Birt and Jaxton Spees defeated Elida’s Kase Fletcher and Alex Dunahay, 6-0, 6-4. They face Ethan Weis and Levi Unterbrink of Ottawa-Glandorf in the semifinals in match that was suspended.
Play will begin at 9 a.m. today at the Westwood Tennis & Fitness Center. Following the completion of the doubles semifinals, matches will be played for seventh/eighth, fifth/sixth, then third and first place.
