First day of MAC meet held

MINSTER — The first day of competitio­n was held Tuesday for the Midwest Athletic Conference track and field meet, with Minster’s Wildcat Stadium serving as the host facility.

The Minster girls won the 4x800 meter relay with Maggie Hemmelgarn, Chaney Cedarleaf, Cameo Cedarleaf and Taylor Roth having a time of 9:50.67.

New Bremen was second with Caroline Whitlach, Mia Hirschfeld, Molly Dues and Chloe Homan finishing in 10:00.12.

The rest of the field was as follows: 3. Versailles, 10:12.33; 4. Fort Recovery, 10:12.74; 5. Coldwater, 10:28.72; 6. St. Henry, 10:39.74; 7. St. John’s, 10:47.39; 8. Marion Local, 11:18.22; 9. Parkway, 11:35.03.

In the boys 4x800, Minster’s Alex Westerheid­e, Jack Grieshop, Ryan Halpin and Alex Albers combined to run in 8:17.33 for first place.

Marion Local was second (8:18.83), followed by New Bremen’s team of Braeden Suchland,

Patrick Bernhold, Zach Wiedeman and Sam Bernhold with a time of 8:22.29 for third.

They were followed by: 4. Parkway, 9:09.91;

5. Versailles, 9:11.66; 6. Coldwater, 9:13.30; 7. St. John’s, 9:30.63; and

8. St. Henry, 9:33.69. Preliminar­ies were held in the 100/110 hurdles, 100m dash, 4x100, 400m dash, 300m hurdles, 200m dash, and 4x400.

Finals for those events plus the 800, 1600, and 3200m runs will be held on Friday.

In field events, finals were held in the boys and girls high jump and girls pole vault.

Melisa Waterman of New Knoxville won the high jump at 5 feet. Adriana Kremer and Kalya Lamm of Minster were tied for second, also clearing 5 feet.

Charlie Jellison of New Bremen was tied for ninth (4-8) and Chloe Homan was 12th (4-6).

Tate Hess of Marion Local cleared 6-feet-2 to win the boys’ event, and teammate Luke Pohlman was second at 6-0.

Nathan Webb of

Minster tied for fifth (5-8). For New Bremen, Aaron Poeppelman and Alex Homan tied for ninth place (5-4).

Heidi Stammen of Versailles won the pole vault at a height of 106. Josi Boate of Minster was third (9-6), Brooklyn Kremer of New Bremen tied for seventh (80) and Minster’s Ashlyn Homan tied for ninth (7-6).

Preliminar­ies were held in discus, shot put, and long jump for boys and girls.
