Cardinals rally for victory

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen staged a big rally to down visiting Spencervil­le 9-4 on Thursday.

The Bearcats scored their runs in the first three innings. New Bremen trailed until the fifth, when they scored seven runs. They added two more in the sixth for good measure.

Trevor Bergman threw a complete game to earn the victory. He allowed 10 hits, walked two and struck out six.

Nick Alig had a triple and double, as did Vince

Hulse. Aaron Thieman doubled and singled, and Ben Sailer added two hits. Alig drove in three runs, with one RBI each for Hulse, Reece Busse, and Thieman.

Spencervil­le used a hit batter, walk and two double to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first.

A single, hit batter, wild pitch and single added another run in the second.

They got the fourth run without the benefit of a hit, using a fielder’s choice, wild pitch and a misplayed grounder.

New Bremen left the bases loaded in the second and third innings.

In the fifth, Hulse led off with a double, and was awarded third due to a balk. Busse singled to left to bring him in.

Thieman followed with a double to left, scoring Busse. Nolan Kuenning was hit and stole second. Thieman and Kuenning both scored after passed balls to tie it.

A triple by Alig, a single by Sailer and a triple by Hulse put the Cardi

nals up by three.

Alig drove in the final two runs on a two-out double in the sixth.

The Cardinals (11-8) continue their busy final week of the regular season today with a game against Bethel.

Lincolnvie­w 7, Minster 1

MINSTER — Minster had its win streak snapped on Thursday as they lost to visiting Lincolnvie­w in non league play

Minster falls to 13-7 overall.

Eli Rindler was the losing pitcher, working five innings. He allowed five runs on six hits and two walks. Nathan Beair pitched two innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks.

Minster had four hits — a double by Zach

Fortman, and singles from Johnny Nixon, Brady Wolf, and Alex Schmitmeye­r.

The Lancers scored on an error and single in their first at-bat.

Nixon reached on an error with two away in the home half. Wolf then drove him in with a hit to center.

Lincolnvie­w retook the lead with two runs in the third, and got another pair in the fourth, and two more in the sixth.

Minster will travel to Fort Loramie for a game today at 5 p.m.

COLDWATER — St. Marys lost to host Coldwater in non league play.

The Cavaliers scored a run in the third, and two in both the fourth and fifth. St. Marys broke up the shutout with a run in the sixth, then gave up three more in the bottom half for the final seven-run margin.

Cole Koenig pitched five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. He recorded six strikeouts. Brayden Sullivan pitched one inning of relief, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks.

The Roughrider­s had just two hits, one by Koenig and one by Sullivan. Sullivan also had a walk and drove in Koenig.

St. Marys (1-8 WBL, 6-12) will travel to Indian Lake for a game today at 5 p.m.
