Arts in the Parks to begin June 6

Arts in the Parks is a summer art program for school-aged children that Arts Place in Portland, Indiana has been offering for 44 years. Arts in the Parks is offered in 14 communitie­s this year: Celina, Coldwater, Fort Recovery, Minster, New Bremen, St. Henry and St. Marys in Ohio, as well as Berne, Dunkirk, Hartford City, Montpelier, Pennville, Redkey, and Portland in Indiana.

Arts in the Parks classes are offered for $5, with a $30 registrati­on fee cap per child. A student may take as many classes as they are able to attend. Arts in the Parks classes are open to children aged 6 to 18 years of age. Class capacities are limited to 16 students per class. Scholarshi­ps are available to students who qualify for free or reduced lunches, and registrati­on for scholarshi­p students should be completed over the phone or in-person.

The Festival at Arts Park, the celebratio­n event to kick-off the Arts in the Parks program, will be held Sunday, May 22, at 131 E. Walnut Street. There will be artist demonstrat­ions, free childrens’ activities, and multiple booths for local artisans and creators. The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

Brochures can be picked up at any Arts Place center or found online. The program’s earliest classes begin on June 6th and the latest classes are through the last week of July.
