First day of district track held

From staff reports While rain postponed the baseball playoff games scheduled for Wednesday, area track and field athletes took part in the first day of district meets at a number of locations.

The top four finishers in the events qualify for regionals.

——— ST. MARYS

At Defiance, preliminaries were held in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, and the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 relays. Finals for those events plus the 1600 and 3200 will be run on Friday.

Finals were held for the 4x800m relays.

The St. Marys girls team of Maria Jutte, Karlie Lucas, Emma Freewalt and Ellen Schloemer finished in fifth place (10:21.10).

The boys team of Seth Brandt, Cole Hughes,

Ray Walter and Tyler Birt finished seventh (8:42.19).

In the girls’ high jump, Ella Jacobs finished second (4-10) to qualify for regionals. Reghan Puthoff was fifth (4-8).

Kaci Anthony was 13th (87-6) and Shaylnn Liette finished 16th (840) in the discus.

Brandon Bowers took second place in the long jump (20-10 1/2). Also competing was Jaikob Long (17th, 18-3).

Ross Henschen finished 11th in the shot put (39-4 3/4).

The results for the preliminaries are as follows. The top eight qualified for Friday’s finals in all events except the 800m run, which saw the top 16 move on.
