Minster advances with rout

MINSTER — Minster kept its season going with an avalanche of runs on Friday, as they routed Lakota 23-0 to claim a sectional championsh­ip in Division III baseball at Melcher Street Park.

The Wildcats scored four, seven, nine and three in their four atbats. The game ended after the top of the fifth.

Johnny Nixon and Brandon Lickteig combined on a four-hitter, with Nixon allowing three, and Lickteig one. Nixon had two walks and two strikeouts, with one K for Lickteig.

The Raiders used four pitchers in the contest, none of them going more than 1 2/3 innings.

Minster racked up 20 hits, including doubles by Eli Rindler, Nathan Oldiges, and Tyler Stueve.

They struck out just three times and drew eight walks.

Besides earning the pitching victory, Nixon had four hits, with three by Zach Fortman. Logan Kohne, Nathan Beair, Brady Wolf and Oldiges each had two.

Wolf and Fortman both drove in four runs. Beair and Rindler had three RBIs each, with two apiece for Oldiges and Stueve. Nixon and Adam Rindler each brought in one, as all but two of the Minster runs were earned.

Lakota got a single in the first, a single and double in the second, a walk in the third, and a single in the fifth.

Minster is now 17-9 on the season. They will face the winner of Eastwood and Parkway, who also played Friday in the district semifinals.

That game is slated for next Thursday at 2 p.m., the first of a doublehead­er. The district final will be May 28 at 2 p.m. Elida will serve as the host facility.
