Swimmers start postseason journey Saturday

LIMA — Area swimmers got their postseason journey under way on Saturday with sectional meets.

Action for the Northwest District took place at Ayersville, Fremont, Lakewood, Lima, Mansfield and Oak Harbor.

St. Marys, Minster, New Bremen and Marion Local were part of the Division II field at the Lima Family YMCA.

GIRLS

The New Bremen 400 freestyle relay team took first place with a time of 3:59.17. Taking part were Lucy Homan, Caroline Whitlatch, Olivia Heitkamp and Annie Jiang.

ST. MARYS

Ciera Rupert, a junior, took second in the 100 breaststro­ke (1:11.25) and the 200 individual medley (2:18.06).

In the 100 backstroke, Peyton Gabel was fifth (1:03.50) and Sophie James sixth (1:04.94).

Gabel took fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:05.96).

Raeh Wehnes was sixth in the 500 freestyle (7:20.97).

MINSTER

Senior Cameo Cedarleaf took first place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.11 seconds.

She was third in the 50 freestyle (25.70), and Elise Oldiges was ninth (26.82).

In the 100 breaststro­ke, Oldiges was seventh (1:15.23) and Lexi Hanson 10th (1:17.24).

NEW BREMEN

Senior Annie Jiang won the sectional title in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.84. Jenna Rismiller was fifth (2:21.63) and Emma Wittenbrin­k eighth (2:22.71).

Jiang also took first in the 500 freestyle (5:26.38).

Olivia Heitkamp took fourth in the 100 freestyle (58.16) and eighth in the 50 free (26.37).

Caroline Whitlatch was eighth in the 100 breaststro­ke (1:16.18) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:31.97).

Rismiller finished 10th in the 100 backstroke (1:14.67).

Lucy Homan was seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:09.08) and eighth in the 200 IM (2:33.59).

In individual events, Andy Jiang of New Bremen won the 200 individual medley (1:57.37). Reese Triplett was third (2:01.42) and Bradey Triplett fourth (2:09.97).

Jiang also won the 100 butterfly (52.59), with Luebke second (55.61). Brian Speckman of St. Marys was 10th (1:07.91).

Reese Triplett won a sectional title in the 100 backstroke (54.96). Avery Rohr of New Bremen was sixth (1:02.85).

In the 100 breaststro­ke, the Riders had third place (McClain, 1:03.11); fifth (Bradey Triplett, 1:04.23), sixth (Luebke, 1:05.25) and ninth (Jaxton Spees, 1:09.57). Marion Local’s Simon Partington was eighth (1:08.85).

New Bremen’s Rohr was second in the 500 freestyle (5:42.42) and teammate Gavin Spragg was seventh (6:50.02).

McClain was third in the 50 freestyle (22.60) and the Flyers’ Partington was seventh (24.53).
