Grand Lake to hold Community Health Fair April 1

- By BRENT MELTON

Grand Lake Health System is preparing for their Community Health fair which is co-hosted by the Celina Rotary Club and Tri Star Career Compact. Tri Star will be providing the location, while the Celina Rotary Club will be providing volunteers who will be there providing food and coffee.

“Its a part of their service to the community because with Rotary, its service above self,” said Lesia Arnett, Executive Director of Development, Marketing, and Outreach for Grand Lake Health System.

“We offer this annual Spring Community Health fair as a service to assist people with knowing their numbers,” said Arnett. She said that their goal is to have people be proactive with their health.

“Offering a wide variety of screenings at one location, at a low discounted price, helps assist them with defining their risk factors,” explained Arnett. The services being offered at the fair will include a variety of lab panels that are will be offered at a discounted rate.

“Panels that are very discounted as we do not run them through insurance,” said Arnett. The people Arnett said she often sees with the fair are those with no insurance, or those with high deductibles.

The fair will also offer other services as well.

“In addition to the discounted lab work are Free Osteoporosis Screenings, Blood Pressure Screenings, and Free Glucose Screenings,” said Arnett. In addition to this there will also be information about Diabetes medication and glucose monitors. They’re also offering Nutrition, Healthy Food Choices, & Carb Counting.

“Care Access and The Lupus Foundation will also be joining us to provide education on what they can offer to the community,” said Arnett.

The Mercer County Sheriff will also be presenting conducing a Drug Take Back. The sheriff will be accepting out of date and unused prescription drugs that people might not know what to do with.

“People don’t know how to get rid of used or expired drugs. This gives them the opportunity to dispose of them properly,” explained Arnett.

“It keeps the community safe,” said Community Outreach Coordinator for Grand Lake Health System Stefanie Westgerdes.

Arnett said that holding the event at Tri Star’s campus, also

offers the community an opportunity.

“Holding our Health Fair here allows participants the

opportunity to check out, and tour, a local facility that is preparing the youth to impact our local workforce in the community,” said Arnett before continuing. “This year we’re pleased to partner with Tri Star for

the second year having this event at their location.”

Arnett said that the program has been well received in the past, and that they’re hoping for continued success with the program.

“The community is very

pleased that we offer it annually, they look forward to it to get their screenings done,” said Arnett.

The Community Health Fair will take place on Sat. April 1, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at the
