Historical society prepares for annual Food Truck Rally

The Minster Historical Society’s Food Truck Rally is returning once again. The rally will be held Saturday, June, 3 in front of the Historical Society’s Museum located at 112 West Fourth Street in Minster, and will run from 3 to 10 p.m.

“It’s a food truck rally to generate funds for the historical society. We’re collaborating with the Mister Athletic Boosters who are also hosting a rubber duck race on the canal,” said museum volunteer Brenda Boeke.

“Our first rally was June of 2018. I had been to the food truck rallies in Miami County, and thought maybe we could do something like this,” said Historical Society’s President Lisa Watercutter. She said that because they’re a non-profit, trying to raise funds is always important. “It’s our fifth year, and now we’re up to eight trucks, and hope to have even more people coming.”

Boeke said that the yearly rally sees the trucks position themselves in front of the museum, and that the museum will be open until 7 p.m.

“Within the museum are artifacts all relating to the history of Minster, from the start of Minster in 1832 on. There are artifacts from all of the different time frames, as well as an extensive library for genealogy research,” said Boeke.

“We don’t purchase any artifacts, so what that money does is help with programming,” said Watercutter. She said that it also goes towards displays, and to help pay for the annex they opened last year. “This is what most of the money goes for, big ticket items like that.”

The museum is set up with different rooms including a military area, parlor, bedroom, dining

area and kitchen.

“All filled with artifacts from Minster, donated from people who lived in Minster or who are associated with it,” said Boeke. She said that she believes that when people come to visit, they’ll be surprised what they find in the museum.

“Our mission statement is to preserve the history of Minster for future generations. We try to offer educational programing and student tours,” said Watercutter. She said that they also have programming about Native Americans in the area, and about veterans who were killed in action.

“We had Wally Wagner come speak about Wagner’s IGA, which celebrated 100 years last year,” said Watercutter.

Watercutter. said that she hopes that every year they make more people aware of the museum and historical society.

“I was shocked at the number of people from Minster, who don’t know we have a museum,” said Watercutter before continuing. “I want people to know we’re here, and to preserve our history, because its so important.”
