A MORE RELIABLE VOLTAGE SNIFFER

- REUBEN SALTZMAN HOME INSPECTOR, STRUCTURETECH1.COM

I’ve been frustrated with noncontact electrical testers because low-voltage stuff (even my 5-volt mobile phone charger) sets them off. I prefer the Fluke 2AC because it ignores low voltage, there’s no on/off switch to mess with (it’s always on), and a pair of “AAA” batteries will last a year or two.

I’ve had the Fluke 2AC for about three years now, and it has been the most reliable, rugged noncontact electrical tester I’ve owned. Some voltage sniffers cost as little as $5, but my Fluke was well worth the higher price (about $35 online).
