The Family Handyman

Don’t get overwhelmed

-

Faced with a whole house to clean, you’re more likely to procrastinate, get sidetracked during the job or just give up. So Schar has developed a strategy to make cleaning manageable, approachable and efficient.

START WITH THE DIRTIEST ROOM FIRST

Tackle the big project first and everything else will seem easy in comparison. Plus, you’ll feel better when it’s done.

WORK TOP TO BOTTOM, LEFT TO RIGHT

When staring a dirty room in the face, you may feel at a loss to know where to start. Schar recommends you work top to bottom, left to right. When you’re done, do a quick once over to see if you’ve missed anything.

SET A TIME LIMIT

Instead of telling the family it’s a cleaning day, set a time limit and stick to it. Cleaning isn’t so bad when you say you’ll do it for two hours rather than all day.
