LAUREL HILL - Joseph “Buddy” Reece Blalock, a man who dedicated his life to public safety and service passed away at the age of 80 in his home in Laurel Hill, NC on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Buddy was born on September 26, 1942 in Montgomery County,

NC, son to the late Henry

Edward Blalock and the late Wilma Reece Blalock Britt. Buddy loved his career in law enforcemen­t with the North Carolina Highway Patrol retiring after many years of dedicated service as Captain, then continued his career to serve as the former Scotland County Sheriff. He had a great love for his dogs and enjoyed taking them for walks and rides. Buddy was a well-respected member of the community, a loving husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-father who raised him as his own son, Robert Britt: his first wife and mother of their children, Eileen C. Blalock; son, Kevin Blalock; and sister, Sue Ann B. Long.

Left to rejoice in his memory is wife, Elaine Modlin Blalock of their home; son, David Blalock of Southern Pines, NC; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Liz” Blalock Barnes (Matt) of Maryland; brother, Kent Britt (Jude) of Florida; grandchild­ren, “Hailey” Eileen Blalock and Jordan “Reece” Blalock; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

The Celebratio­n of Life Memorial Service with NC Highway Patrol Honors will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel followed by a time of visitation for family and friends.

Memorial donations are requested to be made to the Humane Society of Scotland County, 1401 West Boulevard, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
