Jaguars’ Dan Edwards announced as recipient for Awards of Excellence
The NFL announced 15 recipients for the 2024 Awards of Excellence who’ll be recognized under the Hall of Fame umbrella this summer, with former Jacksonville Jaguars public relations director, Dan Edwards, set to be honored in the group.
Edwards was hired in 1994 and remained with the club until 2021, serving as one of the longest tenured employees for the club before he retired.
“I knew within days of meeting Dan Edwards in the fall of 2011 that he was respected and trusted throughout the Jaguars organization, but where I really understood everything Dan represents was a few months later at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis, my first as a member of the NFL,” Jaguars’ owner Shad Khan said in a statement released by the team. “The number of friends and associates Dan had from other teams, the league office and the news media, in particular, was something to behold.
“No one has that kind of community unless you’re the very best at what you do, and you’re also a good human being while being the best. That’s why Dan is being honored. There is no one more deserving.”
Edwards spent time as a member of the public relations department at the commissioner’s office and with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to beginning his work in Jacksonville.
His leadership and experience led him to be promoted to title of senior vice president of communications in 2010.
Prior to retiring, he traveled to assist with the Super Bowl every year, helping to run the largest football event in the world on an annual basis.
Edwards and the 14 other recipients will be recognized at an evening reception on June 26 and a luncheon on June 27.
This is the third installment of the Awards of Excellence, honoring individuals who have helped drive the accomplishments of their profession, individual NFL Clubs and the sport of pro football.
