Jaguars can find solid cornerback, good depth in draft
This cornerback class has the potential to be special. Draft analysts have gone back and forth on who the top prospect is.
Many of them have landed somewhere between Quinyon Mitchell and Terrion Arnold.
But other players like Kool-Aid McKinstry, Cooper DeJean, Nate Wiggins, T.J. Tampa and more have the potential to be standouts in the league.
Let's take a look at the cornerbacks that'll be featured in the 2024 NFL draft.
2024 NFL draft: Top-five cornerbacks
Cooper DeJean, Iowa, 6-0, 203, projected for first round
Quinyon Mitchell, Toledo, 6-0, 195, projected for first round
Terrion Arnold, Alabama, 6-0, 189, projected for first round
Kool-Aid McKinstry, Alabama, 5-11, 199, projected for late first round or early second
Nate Wiggins, Clemson, 6-1, 173, projected for first round
No need for trades, Jaguars can find good fit at No. 17
The top of the draft is stacked this year. It's presumed that seven of the first 10 picks will be either quarterbacks or wide receivers.
With a heavy run on those positions, cornerbacks will be pushed down the board and Jacksonville will have a chance to land one of the top ones with their top picks.
Especially if the cornerback-needy teams ahead of them elect to draft other positions. The Broncos and Colts would be two teams to watch.
Denver needs a wealth of positions including edge rusher and quarterback and the Colts could elect to pair Anthony Richardson with talented University of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.
Even if multiple corners come off the board before the Jaguars are on the clock, they'll still land a player they like because the depth is that good.
NFL Draft has good depth of cornerbacks, Jaguars can address need beyond the first round
The Jaguars may elect to go in a different direction than corner in the first round. We've covered a few other positions of needs in our previews and mock drafts.
One of the most speculated moves is the team moving into the top 10 to take a receiver. We previously covered that in a draft scenario where the team moves up to take Malik Nabers.
If they choose to go in a different route, they can find players in the second or third round who'd fit their needs.
Mike Sainristil, Kamari Lassiter, Ennis Rakestraw, Khyree Jackson, Nehemiah Pritchett or Cam Hart would all be players who could be selected to help Jacksonville's secondary.
