Youth baseball registration underway
Deadline to register is March 5 for Brush Minor and Major leagues, April 1 for T-Ball and Farm league
The City of Brush is conducting youth baseball sign-ups for ages 5-12. Sign-ups began on Feb. 19. This program is designed for the kids to learn basic skills of baseball in a fun atmosphere.
Below is a breakdown of each league and fee:
T-Ball
T-Ball is designed for children ages 5 and 6. Games will be played on Friday nights or Saturday mornings. There will be approximately 6 games. Register by April 1. Games are tentatively set to begin April 17. Fee is $50.
Farm Baseball
Farm Baseball is designed for children ages 7 and 8. Children will hit from a pitching machine and begin to focus more on fundamentals and the strategies of baseball. Games will be played on Friday nights or Saturday mornings. Children that are 6 years old and request to play up may with permission from the Brush Recreation Department. There will be approximately 10 games. Register by April 1. Games are tentatively set to begin on April 17. Fee is $60.
Minor Baseball
Minor Baseball is designed for children ages 9 and 10. Children will hit of f live pitching. Fundamentals and strategies will be stressed in this division. Games will be played throughout the week, but there will be no more than 3 game days in a week. These teams will also play games against teams around the area and some travel may be required. Children that are 8 years old may play up only if they are drafted by one of the teams. If that child is not drafted into the Minors, they will be placed on a Farm Team. Player assessments will be at the Joslin/ Needham complex - dates and times to be announced later. You MUST attend one of the assessments to be drafted (more info on assessments to follow). There will be approximately 10-14 games. Register by March 5. Fee is $90.
Major Baseball
Major Baseball is designed for children ages 11 and 12. Children will hit of f live pitching. Fundamentals and strategies will be stressed in this division at a higher level than that of the Minor league. Games will be played throughout the week, but there will be no more than 3 game days in a week. These teams will also play games against teams around the area and some travel may be required. Depending on numbers, 10-year-olds may be asked to play up in this division. Player assessments will be at the Joslin/Needham complex - dates and times to be announced later. You MUST attend one of the assessments to be drafted (more info on assessments to follow). There will be approximately 10-14 games. Register by March 5. Fee is $90.
All-Star Tournaments
In Minor Baseball and Major Baseball, coaches will select All-Star teams to compete in competitive tournaments at the end of the season.
This program will be highly competitive and allow the kids to play in two to three additional tournaments as well as some scrimmage games with area teams.
The City hopes to have a 10- and 12-year-old tournament team. There will be no more than 14 kids per tournament team.
For those who do not make the tournament teams, there will be games scheduled with local area teams tournaments to further develop the skills needed for the next level.
Volunteers needed to coach
There will be a MANDATORY coaches meeting prior to the season starting. Please contact the Recreation Department if you are interested in coaching.
