West Platte water line work ongoing
City started first phase of lengthy water line replacement; will be followed by CDOT’s Highway 34 resurfacing project in April, May
Getting around the middle of the west side of Fort Morgan is now a bit more complicated.
The city on Thursday, Feb. 25, began a monthslong infrastructure and resurfacing project that involves intermittent full and partial closures of
West Platte Avenue/U.S. Highway 34, according to a city news release.
The overall project includes water line replacement by the City of For t Morgan, followed by repaving by the Colorado Department of Transportation. The project was scheduled to star t Monday, March 1, with the water line work, which will also involve traffic disruptions and closures
To prepare for the water line replacement, the city water depar tment on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 25 and 26, did rotomilling of the old asphalt road surface. Earlier this week, work was set to begin on the water line project. This phase will include intermittent closures of blocks of West Platte along the same corridor, starting from the far west end and progressing east to Main Street.
As the project progresses crews will open to traffic a block at a time, and all af fected city water customers will be notified prior to shutdowns.
“City of ficials ask that residents please utilize alternate routes during this work,” the news release stated. “We understand that this will be an inconvenience but ask for patience as this is a necessar y project to replace old infrastructure ahead of the CDOT repaving project that will commence after the underground infrastructure is completed.”
The West Platte water line project is expected to continue through the month of March, and CDOT is expected to star t its work in the middle of April to early May.
