As of Feb. 24, Mustangs at 5-5 overall, Lady Mustangs at 1-9

The Fort Morgan boys and girls basketball teams now are well into their seasons.

While the boys have gotten nearly a half dozen of victories so far this season, wins continue to be elusive for the Fort Morgan girls. Both Fort Morgan teams were trailing in the 4A Longs Peak League as of this writing on Feb. 24.

Boys Basketball

The Fort Morgan Mustangs boys basketball team is having a middling season so far, with an overall record of 5-5 and 4-3 in the Longs Peak League as of Tuesday, Feb. 23. They were sitting in sixth place in the league as of Feb. 24.

On Thursday, Feb. 18, the Mustangs traveled to

Johnstown to face Roosevelt. They handled the Roughrider­s with relative ease, scoring the most in each of the four quar ters. At the final buzzer, it was 72-49 in Fort Morgan’s favor.

Fort Morgan junior Jessie Campa led the scoring in the game with Roosevelt, with 20 points. Also contributi­ng in double digits was sophomore Wesley Carnes. Junior Fernando Marquez added 9 points.

The Mustangs were on the road again on Saturday, Feb. 20, as they headed to Thornton to take on the Riverdale Ridge Ravens. This game was much closer than the one with Roosevelt, with the home team getting the win, 57-52.

Fort Morgan junior Briggs Wheatley was the top scorer for the Mustangs in this game, with 16

points. Marquez put up 10 points.

Next up for the Mustangs was a trip to Greeley for an away League game with Northridge on Tuesday, Feb. 23. The Mustangs brought home the win, 5542, and setting their overall record at a tied 5-5.

The Fort Morgan boys were scheduled to play a home League game against Ber thoud on Thursday, Feb. 25, but results of that game were not available as of deadline for this stor y. After that would be a road League game in Loveland against Mountain View on Monday, March 1.

Girls Basketball

The Fort Morgan girls are having a rough season, with their record at 1-9 overall and 1-8 in the 4A Longs Peak League as of Feb. 24.

The Lady Mustangs traveled to Johnstown on Thursday, Feb. 18, for a League game with Roosevelt, but the Lady Roughrider­s got the win, 76-26.

On Saturday, Feb. 20, the

Lady Mustangs again were on the road, this time to Thornton for a League game with Riverdale Ridge. The Fort Morgan girls again took a loss, 76-41.

A third road game took the Lady Mustangs to Greeley to face the

Nor thridge Lady Grizzlies. That one ended in a 63-27 Nor thridge win.

Next up for the For t Morgan girls would be a home League game against Ber thoud on Thursday, Feb. 25. Results of that game were not available as of deadline for this stor y.

After that the Lady Mustangs were scheduled be on the road again as they would head to Loveland on Monday, March 1, to face the girls from Mountain View.
