Library issuing two patron art challenges in March

Entries due March 31 for Reenactment, Travels challenges

-

The Fort Morgan Library & Museum will be accepting entries for two different Patron Art Challenges during the month of March

One of the challenges is focused on travels and is tied in with a new Museum Lower Galler y exhibit to run March 5 through May 25. The second is a “back by popular demand” challenge to creatively re-create popular or classic media like movies, books or ar t works (see flier for examples).

“The Travels” art challenge is related to the new galler y exhibit titled “1773 Scotland: An Illustrated Account of Johnson and Boswell’s Tour.” The exhibit contains 65 historically re

created paintings of locations visited by the Johnson & Boswell tour. The paintings were completed in

2018, more than 200 years after their initial tour. The artist completed the project during numerous trips to the original locations.

Use whatever media you want to create your original ar twork showing us your own “travels.” Your artwork might be photographs, painting, sketch or even multi-media or sculpture. (Need some supplies? The librar y Makerspace will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3 to 4:45 p.m.).

The other Patron Art Showcase Challenge involves re-creating a famous image from another medium like movies, books or art in the form of an original photograph.

Each original must either be composited next to the media that inspired it or include the name of the inspirational medium with the entry. Participants can pick up a label at the librar y circulation desk and each entr y must include a photo of the par ticipant holding that label as well as the photo that is entered.

These creative re-creations as well as the photos entered in the Travels challenge will be displayed in a Patron Art Showcase in the librar y.

For both challenges, only photos will be accepted as entries and they must be no larger than 8-1/2” x 11”. Only one entr y per person and all ages are welcome. Entries are open now and are due by March 31. Each person submitting an entr y will be placed in a drawing for a $25 gift card.

Photos can be brought to the librar y circulation desk or e-mailed to kathleen.byrne@cityoffortmorgan.com. For more information, call the librar y at (970) 542-4000.
