East Morgan County Hospital (EMCH) was recently named a top maternity hospital by Newsweek, according to a news release.

The list of “Best Maternity Hospitals 2021” by Newsweek includes 217 health care facilities across 36 states. Newsweek partnered with The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that reports on the safety and quality of performance of U.S. health care facilities, to determine the list of best maternity facilities in the nation.

Dr. Terry Groff, OB/ GYN and chief of staf f at EMCH, said being included in the list was an honor and showcases the hard work of the hospital’s staf f. Of the Banner Health hospitals that made the list, Dr. Groff notes that EMCH is the only critical access hospital, which makes the accomplishment that much more impressive.

“I am thrilled to be recognized (on this list),” Dr. Groff said. “(With) the difficulty with being a critical access hospital with smaller numbers of patients, I feel this shows we are providing good, consistent care that people are looking for.”

To be considered for the list, hospitals had to demonstrate they fully met Leapfrog’s standards for maternity care. EMCH was one of 12 Colorado hospitals to make this list. Of those, four are Banner Health facilities.

The EMCH is located at 2400 West. Edison St. in Brush. For additional information regarding the Labor and Deliver or to schedule an appointment with an EMCH provider, call 970-842-6703.
