Brush softball ends season at state

After strong start, Beetdiggers fell to Limon in first round

- By Alissa Noe

Brush’s softball team put together a season to remember, one that took the Beetdiggers all the way to the Class 3A state tournament at Aurora Sports Park over the weekend.

The eighth-seeded Beetdiggers met stiff competition in the very first round against No. 9 Limon and, unfortunately, couldn’t come out on top. They fell to the Badgers by a 14-4 final in game one of the tournament, thus ending their season.

The ladies got off to a hot start on Friday as, after Limon put up three runs in the top of the first inning, they put up three of their own to match the Badgers’ plate production. The Badgers methodically scored in the next two innings to increase their lead to 7-4 by the end of the third inning. The score carried through the fourth frame before Limon’s offense exploded in the top of the fifth with seven more runs.

Brush coudln’t manage any scores in the bottom of the inning, which ended in a run rule to end the Beetdiggers’ season.

Senior Harley Holdren led her team with two RBIs off of two hits as junior Karly Tadolini and junior Amaia Bruno each added another RBI of their own. The Beetdiggers finished their campaign with a 15-11 record and 193 runs off of 204 hits. Holdren led those totals with 29 RBIs and 29 hits as junior Braelynn

Rule added an extra 31 hits and 15 RBIs.

Fort Morgan boys soccer to host first round of playoffs

Fort Morgan soccer finally did it.

All season long, the Mustangs have tried week in and week out to crack the CHSAANow.com top-10 rankings in Class 4A. For much of the season, they teetered just on the outside. In this week’s final rankings heading into the Class 4A state playoffs, the Mustangs rang in at No.

10.

In doing so, they also won the privilege of hosting their first round playoff game as the 15th-seeded Mustangs are set to take on No. 18 Mead on Thursday night.
