Division-II All-American Patrick Cartier commits to Colorado State program
Former Hillsdale College forward expresses intentions to join CSU
FORT COLLINS –– For the second time in as many seasons, the Colorado
State men’s basketball program has landed a coveted Division-II star through the transfer portal.
Before 2021-22’s campaign, Chander Jacobs took his talents to Fort Collins after becoming a D-II All-American at Dallas Baptist en route to serving as a key contributor for coach Niko Medved’s squad.
Now, CSU welcomes former Hillsdale College forward Patrick Cartier to the recently renovated Moby
Arena –– who expressed intentions to become a
Ram on Monday via Twitter.
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound big man will have two seasons of eligibility remaining, commencing immediately.
Cartier, a Wisconsin native, wasted little time asserting himself as one of D-II’s top players over three campaigns after redshirting his true freshman stint with the Chargers in 2018-19.
Over the past three seasons combined, the versatile forward averaged 19.6 points per game off an electric 65.2% shooting clip from the floor. Along the way, Cartier corralled 6.1 rebounds on average and distributed 1.8 assists per contest through 83 games.
Following 2020-21’s campaign, Cartier became Hillsdale’s first-ever consensus All-American while also obtaining Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors.
Translating his brilliance to the most recent season, Cartier again cruised to consensus All-American status in light of averaging 22 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 2021-22 while converting at a 66% rate from the floor and knocking down 21-of-48 3-pointers.
The forward scored at least 20 points in 22 of Hillsdale’s 31 games during his final D-II season –– headlined by dropping 30plus tallies on four occasions.
Before joining Medved’s troupe, Cartier garnered interest from several D-I programs, such as coach Greg Gard’s Wisconsin Badgers.
The D-II big man constitutes the third player CSU has added since 2021-22’s conclusion –– joining a pair of incoming freshmen in Idaho-born forward Jack Payne (signed) and Las Vegas native guard Tavi Jackson (committed).
Meanwhile, Medved’s staff has waved goodbye to five contributors from 2021-22’s NCAA Tournament squad in Adam Thistlewood (transfer), Kendle Moore (transfer), Dischon Thomas (transfer), Jalen Scott (transfer) and Chandler Jacobs (graduated).
