Bailey has overcome challenges to ensure elections done right
Susan Bailey was elected to a four-year term as the Morgan County Clerk and Recorder in November 2014. She was sworn in in January 2015 and was reelected to serve a second term in 2019.
Prior to her appointment as Clerk, she worked as the Administrative Services Manager for the Morgan County Board of County Commissioners for nearly eight years. Because of that job, she did have experience working with both the Clerk’s office and the commissioners.
As a member of the Colorado County Clerks Association, Bailey was able to spend time networking with other county clerks and was even sworn in in February 2020 as the chair of the Eastern Region on the association board.
For the past seven years she has spent as the Morgan County Clerk and Recorder, Bailey has overseen the Elections Department, the Motor Vehicle Department and the Recording Department.
Perhaps most notably though, Bailey faced a challenge unlike any other. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, she had to guide members of the county through an important election processes and motor vehicle registration issues.
For the June 2020 primaries, voters were able to vote either inside or outside of the Administration Building depending on their own personal level of comfort. Voters could also submit their ballot at a one of three secure ballot drop boxes located in Morgan County or in advance by mail.
Also, for safety reasons at the time, Bailey had to deal with the relocation of the voting center to the bottom floor to allow for proper social distancing recommendations. She also supervised two student election judges who sat outside the Administration to collect ballots.
Despite the unique challenges that were presented to her as Clerk, especially over the last two years, Bailey said, “Being clerk has been an honor to work for the citizens of Morgan County!”
