Peter Ira Alpert

May 13, 1938 - May 6, 2022

Peter Ira Alpert was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 13, 1938, to parents Oscar and Anne Prashker Alpert and died peacefully at his home in Las Vegas, surrounded by family, on May 6, 2022, one week shy of his 84th birthday.

Peter graduated from Pace College in 1961 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and became a CPA in 1964 and then graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from NYU Law School in 1965.

Peter practiced tax law in New York City and later had a general practice in Colorado where in 1983 was appointed by the Governor of Colorado as a District Court Judge of the 13th Judicial District. He resigned from the bench in 1988 to become Chief Legal Counsel at the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas. He then became Vice President/ General Counsel at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino, after which he opened a private law practice in Las Vegas.

In 2000, Peter began his encore career as Chief Executive Officer and General Counsel for the Clark County, NV, Teachers Health Trust. He retired in 2016 and went on to write three fiction novels based on his vast experiences with the criminal justice system.

Peter was a voracious reader who loved traveling the globe, time with family, and the Brooklyn Dodgers ( even after they left him for Los Angeles).

Peter is sur vived by Susan, his wife of 48 years, and his children Jeff Alpert ( Nicola Byok) of Hamburg, Germany, Lauren Alpert ( John Bauer) of Waterbur y, VT, Kim Alpert of Mill Valley, CA, and Holly Alpert ( Alex Clayton) of Bishop, CA; grandchildren Collin and Justin Alpert of Hamburg, Germany, and Colton and Hudson Renga of Mill Valley, CA; and siblings Paul Alpert ( Michael Lawrence) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Ellen Dorsch ( Bill Dorsch) of Grand Isle, VT.

In lieu of flowers, Peter has requested that donations be made to his favorite charities: Natural Resources Defense Council, American Civil Liberties Union, Humane Society of the United States, the Salvation Army, or a charity of your choice.
