J.K. Rowling made her screenwriting debut with this whimsical 2016 spinoff of the blockbuster movie adaptations of her “Harry Potter” novels, with Eddie Redmayne starring as Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist” tracking down magical creatures set free in the wizarding world of 1926 New York. Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Samantha Morton and Alison Sudol co-star in the movie, which became the first Harry Potter-related film to win an Oscar (for costume design).

The practice of pairing emotionally intuitive pets with humans recovering from a trauma is becoming increasingly common, but this touching new unscripted series takes that to a whole new level, by pairing shell-shocked combat veterans with rescued wolves. The show spotlights the work being done by U.S. Navy veteran Matt Simmons and his wife, clinical psychologist Lorin Lindner, at the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center, which extracts the wolves from dangerous or abusive situations. Humans and animals work together in a private, non-public space.
