PG&E board launches re­view amid fire woes

PG&E’s board of direc­tors on Fri­day re­vealed it has launched a widerang­ing re­view of the com­pany, rais­ing the prospect of ma­jor struc­tural changes as the em­bat­tled util­ity nav­i­gates an in­creas­ingly for­bid­ding land­scape of le­gal, crim­i­nal and reg­u­la­tory chal­lenges fol­low­ing a se­ries of lethal wild­fires in Cal­i­for­nia in 2017 and 2018.

This sort of re­view by a pub­licly held com­pany can of­ten in­clude sales or spin-offs of as­sets, as well as an assess­ment about whether the com­pany might have to file for bank­ruptcy. NPR re­ported Fri­day the com­pany is con­sid­er­ing sell­ing its gas di­vi­sion.
