A man was killed early Saturday morning in a crash that caused his vehicle to go up in flames on Highway 41.

The California Highway Patrol responded to Highway 41 and Laguna Avenue around 4:12 a.m. for a vehicle accident and reported that one of the vehicles was on fire. A Hummer and a Hyundai were involved in the crash, according to CHP Sgt. Nathan Hunt.

He said the Hyundai driver, who was not identified, was traveling south on Highway 41 while the Hummer was traveling north. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Hyundai drove onto the northbound path of the Hummer, causing the crash.

A 50-year-old man who was driving the Hummer was taken to Community Regional Medical Center by helicopter with major injuries following the crash, Hunt said. laguna ave

A road closure was set up at Highway 41 at Excelsior Avenue due to the crash, but traffic was flowing as of 9 a.m.
