Olympic gold medal­ists Vonn, Subban en­gaged

Lind­sey Vonn and P.K. Subban can add a di­a­mond (ring) to their gold (medals): The star ath­letes say they’re en­gaged.

Vonn, an Olympic down­hill cham­pion in Alpine ski­ing, and Subban, a de­fense­man for the NHL’s New Jersey Devils who won Win­ter Games hockey gold with Canada, posted the news on so­cial me­dia.

The 34-year-old Amer­i­can re­cently re­tired from a ski rac­ing ca­reer that in­cluded a to­tal of three Olympic medals, four over­all World Cup ti­tles and 82 World Cup race wins, a record for a wo­man.

Subban, a 30-year-old Cana­dian, won the 2013 Norris Tro­phy as the NHL’s top de­fense­man. He was traded to the Devils from the Nashville Preda­tors in June.

Ten­nis

Gauff, McNally to team up again: Coco Gauff and Caty McNally will get a chance to play dou­bles at the U.S. Open and add to their win­ning streak as a team.

Gauff, the 15-year-old based in Florida who an­nounced her­self to the world at Wim­ble­don, and McNally, a 17-year-old from Ohio, were granted a dou­bles wild card by the U.S. Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion on Satur­day.

Each pre­vi­ously was given a wild card for the sin­gles main draw, too. The tour­na­ment be­gins Mon­day.

A year ago, Gauff and McNally won a U.S. Open ju­nior ti­tle in dou­bles. They then picked up the first WTA tro­phy for each by win­ning the dou­bles ti­tle at the Citi Open in Wash­ing­ton this month.

Magda Linette won ● her first WTA ti­tle Satur­day, out­last­ing Camila Giorgi 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in the fi­nal of the Bronx Open in New York.

Box­ing

Ko­valev keeps ti­tle: Sergey Ko­valev knocked out An­thony Yarde in Chelyabins­k, Rus­sia, to re­tain the WBO light heavy­weight ti­tle in his first de­fense since win­ning back the belt in Fe­bru­ary.

Ko­valev was rocked by heavy punches from the Bri­tish chal­lenger in the eighth round but Yarde tired, al­low­ing Ko­valev to floor him with a left jab in the 11th.

Track and field

Sprinter to face hear­ing: Sprinter Chris­tian Cole­man faces a Sept. 4 hear­ing at which he’ll try to avoid a dop­ing sus­pen­sion af­ter al­le­ga­tions he failed to pro­vide au­thor­i­ties with his where­abouts so he can be tested for per­for­mance en­hancers.
