Emily Irene VanCamp was born on May 12, 1986, in Port Perry, Ont. One of four sisters, she began her career in entertainment very young – already dancing at age 3 – and got her parents to let her attend a Montreal dance training program when she was 11. The next year, she was admitted to the training program of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
Developing an interest in acting, VanCamp started taking classes, got herself an agent and did a number of commercials ... then appeared, wordlessly, in an episode of “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” After that, she continued to build her resume by playing a young Jacqueline Bouvier in a TV-movie and guest-starring on the series “All Souls.”
VanCamp’s first series as a regular was the horror-suspense show “Glory Days,” in which her work caught the eye of producer Greg Berlanti, who then gave her the role of Amy Abbott in “Everwood.” During that drama’s four-season run, she also appeared in several movies including “The Ring Two” (and its related short-subject prologue, “Rings”).
The series “Brothers & Sisters” welcomed VanCamp to its cast midway through its first season. While working on that show, she made the independent film “Norman,” earning a couple of festival awards for it. She also co-starred in a television adaptation of “Ben Hur.”
VanCamp landed her first role as a series lead by starring in “Revenge.” She also entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sharon Carter in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and she returned to the part later in “Captain America: Civil War.” She served as host of a 2014 ABC special celebrating Marvel’s 75th anniversary.
Currently, VanCamp is a star of the Fox medical drama “The Resident,” which soon will launch its third season. She plays medical practitioner Nic Nevin, who has a complicated history with doctor Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and major health issues within her own family.
VanCamp’s personal life is a legacy of sorts of her work on “Revenge,” since after dating co-star Josh Bowman for seven years, she married him in the Bahamas last December.
