Save salmon, turn off pumps in river

The Fresno Bee - - Opinion -

Regarding “San Joaquin River salmon make big gains, but don’t call it a comeback yet” (Nov. 25), common-sense Californians find it incredible that a dam (Friant) was built in California that wiped out a salmon run probably 800,000 strong. What in the world were they thinking?

Your report left out that the south Delta diversion pumps kill nearly all baby salmon migrating down the San Joaquin River. This presents a real challenge to the fish being restored in the San Joaquin River. Why are these diversion pumps allowed to continue killing salmon? Two wrongs don’t make a right.
