European football roundup: Neymar sent off in PSG win; Lazio hold off Genoa
Paris Saint-Germain extended their Ligue 1 lead to 13 points with a 4-3 home victory against Bordeaux but the French champions were again exposed at the back and had Neymar sent off.A Marquinhos double, Edinson Cavani’s 200th PSG goal and a goal by Kylian Mbappé put the capital side on 65 points from 26 games but they lost captain Thiago Silva to a muscle injury and Neymar picked up a straight red card for a late challenge in stoppage time. Bordeaux, who scored through Hwang Ui-jo, Pablo and Ruben Pardo, are 12th on 35 points.
Serie A’s leading scorer Ciro Immobile grabbed his 27th league goal of the season as irrepressible Lazio won 3-2 at Genoa on Sunday to stay on the tail of leaders Juventus. Lazio stayed one point behind the Turin side as they equalled their points tally for the whole of last season.
Lazio needed less than two minutes to go ahead when Adam Marusic exchanged passes with Felipe Caicedo and powered through the Genoa defence to score. Both teams had chances in an end-to-end match before Immobile, who has played in all of Lazio’s games, added the second from Caicedo’s flick in the 51st minute. Genoa pulled one back when Francesco Cassata scored from the edge of the area six minutes later.
Lazio survived a couple of anxious moments before Danilo Cataldi floated a free-kick over the wall for what proved to be the winner in the 71st minute. Genoa grabbed another back with a stoppage-time penalty converted by Domenico Criscito after Manuel Lazzari was adjudged to have handled following a VAR review.
Roma notched their first home league win for more than two months as they hammered Lecce 4-0. Henrikh Mkhitaryan set up the first goal in the 13th minute when he laid the ball off for Cengiz Under to burst through the Rome defence and comfortably beat Mauro Vigorito.The Armenian scored the second himself when he ran on to Edin Dzeko’s pass and turned a first-time shot under Vigorito eight minutes before halftime. The third came in the 69th minute from Dzeko who beat Vigorito at the second attempt and saw the offside flag go up before the goal was awarded thanks to a VAR review. Aleksandar Kolarov completed the scoring.
Atlético Madrid’s record signing João Félix scored for the first time in the league for almost five months as his side beat Villarreal 3-1 to climb back into the top-four in La Liga. The 20year-old came off the bench to score his side’s third goal after Paco Alcácer had given Villarreal an early lead.Argentine forward Ángel Correa pulled Atlético level shortly before half time while captain Koke put them in front in the 64th minute before substitute Felix rubberstamped the win with a low shot from just outside the area 10 minutes later. Elsewhere Getafe lost 3-0 at home to Sevilla.
In Germany, goals from Moussa Diaby and Nadiem Amiri gave Bayer Leverkusen a 2-0 victory over Augsburg and kept them in contention for a Champions League spot following their sixth win in seven league games.
