West Ham are poised to sign Maxwel Cornet from Burnley after meeting his £17.5m release clause. The Ivory Coast forward has also been a target for Everton, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.

Cornet became a priority target for West Ham after Filip Kostic, another left-sided player, indicated he was reluctant to join from Eintracht Frankfurt. Cornet signed for Burnley from Lyon last August and scored nine goals and set up another in the Premier League last season.

West Ham are facing disappointment in their attempt to buy Amadou Onana after Everton matched their €40m (£33.5m) bid for the Lille midfielder in a late attempt to hijack David Moyes’s move.

West Ham had their offer accepted by the French club and are due to discuss personal terms with the Belgium international. But Everton have also met Lille’s asking price for the 20-yearold – an initial €35m plus €5m in addons – and the indications are Onana would favour a move to Goodison Park.

Everton’s manager, Frank Lampard, is keen to sign two midfielders and the club have held talks over re-signing Idrissa Gana Gueye from Paris SaintGermain.

Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has completed a season-long loan switch to Sevilla. The 29-year-old mostly played back-up to Luke Shaw and was pushed further down the pecking order by the summer arrival of Feyenoord’s Tyrell Malacia. According to PA, the La Liga side will cover Telles’ wages and there is no purchase option agreed for the Brazilian.

Barcelona have agreed to sell the goalkeeper Neto to Bournemouth. The 33-year-old, who has one Brazil cap, has been at Barcelona for the past three seasons after joining from Valencia, but has made only 21 appearances. Scott Parker’s promoted side are also pursuing the Feyenoord centre-back Marcos Senesi. The 25-year-old made his senior Argentina debut this year.

Manchester City have loaned midfielder James McAtee to Championship side Sheffield United. The 19-year-old academy player has made a total of six first-team appearances at City, and has been capped by England at multiple youth levels. “James is a talented player, someone who is rated very highly,” said the Sheffield United manager, Paul Heckingbottom. “We are excited to get him.”
