So, how deep is your pocket? The dancefloor used in the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever has been put up for auction with an estimated price of about $300,000 (£235,800).

John Travolta, playing the role of Italian-American Tony Manero, strutted his moves on the multicoloured floor to the film’s Bee Gees soundtrack, which featured hit songs including How Deep is Your Love, More Than a Woman, Open Sesame and Stayin’ Alive.

The floor is stored in three rolling production carts, two crates and one road case and is being offered in a sale by Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM).

Among the other 1,300 lots is an ark of the covenant prototype used in the making of the 1981 Indiana Jones film Raiders of the Lost Ark, with an estimate of $50,000 to $70,000.

The golden ark is being put up for sale by Peter Stoltz, a visual effects artist, who previously allowed his son to take it to the US version of the Antiques Roadshow. An expert on the programme, James Supp, estimated that the item was worth $80,000 to $120,000.

The prop used in the Steven Spielberg film is held by Lucasfilm Archives.

Film connoisseurs can also buy costumes and memorabilia from the Coen brothers’ crime comedy The Big Lebowski.

The vintage bowling shirt and plaid shorts worn by Jeff Bridges as The Dude and the six-piece purple ensemble of John Turturro as Jesus Quintana have a guide price of $100,000 to $200,000.

Some of the proceeds will be donated to the charity Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry initiative.

David Goodman, the chief executive of Julien’s Auctions, said: “From the Saturday Night Fever dancefloor to the Raiders of the Lost Ark of the Covenant to the Big Lebowski bowling outfits, this year’s aptly named Hollywood Legends auction truly is the stuff of legend.

“This summer our teams have assembled an astounding collection of over 1,300 of the most famous and instantly recognisable pop culture artefacts that exemplifies Julien’s and TCM’s best-in-class leadership in the Hollywood memorabilia marketplace.”

The four-day Hollywood Legends: Danger, Disaster and Disco online and live auction in Los Angeles runs from 12-15 June.
