Man charged in May traffic stop
A Tamaqua man was recently charged after a May 17 traffic stop in Tamaqua.
Colin L. Johnson, 45, faces misdemeanors for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. The case was filed against him Nov. 5 and charges were issued via summons, which he accepted Nov. 30.
Police said they were en route to a report of a suspicious vehicle at Columbia and Elm streets but the vehicle fled the area and was stopped by Rush Twp. police in the 400 block of Schuylkill Avenue.
Johnson, the driver, had wax paper bags in his pockets containing a white powder, and a spoon and two syringes in the vehicle, police wrote. Arrest papers state officers also found a container with 8½ pills just outside the vehicle.
He told police he bought heroin that day in Hazleton and used about four bags in the last hour while a blood test showed positive for fentanyl and other drugs, according to court papers.
