Gov. Roy Cooper’s of­fice of­fered the fol­low­ing tips for pre­par­ing for this week­end’s win­ter storm fore­cast:

Stock enough non-per­ish­able food for three days;

Have fresh bat­ter­ies on hand;

Dress warmly with mul­ti­ple lay­ers;

Prop­erly vent heaters and keep gen­er­a­tors out­side to pre­vent car­bon monox­ide poi­son­ing;

Con­tinue to mon­i­tor the fore­cast;

Keep an emer­gency kit in your ve­hi­cle, in­clud­ing ice scraper, jumper ca­bles, a tow chain, sand, salt, blan­kets, flash­lights, a first aid kit and map;

Check on neigh­bors, es­pe­cially el­derly and dis­abled;

In­clude pets in emer­gency plans by pack­ing emer­gency sup­plies such as food, med­i­ca­tion, med­i­cal records, wa­ter, leash and col­lar or car­rier.
