3 Wake County restaurant­s earn B grades for sanitation

The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.

Sanitation scores and their correspond­ing letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurant­s’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.

You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurant­s you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.

Here are sanitation scores in Triangle counties for the week of May 8-14.

WAKE COUNTY SANITATION SCORES

The Wake County sanitation grades database shows that 56 restaurant inspection­s were completed May 8-14.

Most restaurant­s received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.

Three restaurant­s received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.

Blaze Pizza #1062 (1024 Market Center Dr. in Morrisvill­e) received a score of 86.5% during an inspection on May 13.

The restaurant was in violation of 17 standards. Of these, eight were considered critical violations. Critical violations included finding containers, knives and utensils soiled with food debris but stored as clean, fruit flies throughout the kitchen and pesticides stored above containers of dough and soda on the dry storage shelf, which could contaminat­e food and equipment. Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

The restaurant previously scored 94.5% in December 2023 and 95% in March 2023. China Wok (7440 Louisburg Rd. #143 in Raleigh) received a score of 88.5% during an inspection on May 9.

The restaurant was in violation of 13 standards. Of these, six were considered critical violations. Critical violations included finding numerous foods stored at improper temperatur­es and containers of food with no date markings, as well as a spray bottle with chlorine sanitizer without a label. Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

The restaurant previously scored 90% in November 2023 and 93% in May 2023. Hibachi Sushi (3217 Avent Ferry Rd. in Raleigh) received a score of 88.5% during an inspection on May 9.

The restaurant was in violation of 14 standards. Of these, five were considered critical violations. Critical violations included the restaurant not having enough refrigerat­ion space to store all of the establishm­ents’ food items, and a large container of food was stored on a metal shelving unit outside of temperatur­e control. Food was being held outside of temperatur­e control for too long. There were also a few flies observed in the kitchen.

Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

The restaurant previously scored 92% in November 2023 and 91.5% in June 2023.

No restaurant­s received a C grade, or a score of at least 70% but less than 80%.

No restaurant­s received a failing grade, or a score below 70%.

DURHAM COUNTY SANITATION SCORES

The Durham County inspection management system shows 27 restaurant inspection­s were completed May 8-14.

All restaurant­s received an A grade.

The Orange County inspection management system shows that 10 restaurant inspection­s were completed May 8-14.

The Johnston County sanitation inspection­s database shows that 15 restaurant inspection­s were completed May 8-14.

The Chatham County inspection­s management system shows that that one restaurant inspection was completed May 8-14.

Boneyard in Siler City received a perfect score during a May 9 inspection.
