Kinston, North - Nancy Carol Summerlin Goodson passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Unc-lenoir Hospital in Kinston, North Carolina following extended illness.

Born in Duplin County NC, on December 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Summerlin and Cornelia Kilpatrick Summerlin Jernigan. The youngest of nine children, she grew up in the Summerlin’s Crossroads community and attended B. F. Grady School.

On September 11,1948, she married the love of her life, Archibald Bernard Goodson. They reared their four children in Greenville and Kinston NC.

Through the years, she steadfastl­y worked behind the scenes, volunteeri­ng her time and talents to the well-being and interests of her immediate and extended family. She was especially devoted to supporting her children’s activities.

As a longtime member of Spilman Memorial Baptist Church, since the early 1960s, she served there in a number of ways. She was also a loving caregiver to her husband in his final 13 years of illness and declining health.

An avid reader, she enjoyed keeping current with the times. Her sharp and inquiring mind, remained so, all her days, even as she endured years of failing physical health. She never missed an opportunit­y to recognize goodness in others and express her appreciati­on of all the help and good deeds she received from those she considered to be “angels among us”.

Nancy was a woman of faith, full of unconditio­nal love and devotion to family and friends. She was a model of that faith, perseveran­ce, honesty, and kindness to all she encountere­d. Her generous, loving ways, and her warm sense of humor and fun will be missed by all who were blessed to have had her in their lives. She loved and was loved beyond measure.

She was predecease­d by her husband of 47 years, her parents and her eight siblings.

She is survived by her children; son, Paul Bernard Goodson (Martha) of Morrisvill­e, NC, her daughter, Barbara Goodson Turcotte (Bill) of Greenville, NC, her son, Dennis Gregory Goodson (Donna) of Wendell, NC and her daughter, Brenda Goodson Hudson (Brian) of Raleigh. NC.

She is also survived by her grandchild­ren, Elizabeth Goodson, Kathryn Goodson Wright (Dave), Billy Turcotte, Nancy Turcotte Dover (Miles), Robert Turcotte (Ginny), Josh Goodson (Kelley), Greg Goodson (Morgan), Rachel Hudson Morrison (David), Ryan Hudson; and her great-grandchild­ren, Elizabeth Turcotte, Blake Dover, Chase Dover, Madison Goodson, Mason Goodson, Worth Goodson, James Morrison and Catherine Morrison; and her beloved sister-in-law, Isabelle Goodson Mallory of Mount Olive, NC and many special nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

The Goodson family will have visitation at Tyndall Funeral Home beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024 with a service to follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Officiatin­g will be Dr. Powell Dew. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be made to Spilman Memorial Baptist Church, 601 Madison Ave., Kinston, NC 28501, or to the charity of one’s choice.
