Lina Wertmüller, the Oscar-nominated Italian filmmaker behind Seven Beauties, Swept Away and The Seduction of Mimi, died Dec. 9 in Rome. She was 93.

Anne Rice, whose novel Interview With the Vampire sent her down a path writing about bloodsucke­rs, witches and werewolves and inspired the 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, died Dec. 11 of complicati­ons from a stroke in Rancho Mirage, California. She was 80.

Cara Williams, Oscarnomin­ated for The Defiant Ones, died Dec. 9 of a heart attack in Beverly Hills. She was 96.

Charles Cappleman, an operations exec who helped bring year-round daytime programmin­g to CBS Television City during his halfcentur­y with the network, died Dec. 5 in Woodland Hills. He was 95.

Michael Nesmith, a pop sensation as a member of The Monkees, died Dec. 10 in Carmel Valley, California. He was 78.

Rhonda Stubbins White, who recurred on the Tyler Perrycreat­ed show Ruthless, died Dec. 6 of cancer. She was 60.
