Richard Roundtree, who helped open the door to a generation of Black filmmakers and performers with his portrayal of private eye John Shaft, died Oct. 24 of pancreatic cancer in Los Angeles. He was 81.
Peter S. Fischer, who co-created Murder, She Wrote after writing for Columbo and Baretta, died Oct. 30 in Pacific Grove, California. He was 88.
Richard Moll, who played the towering and tenderhearted bailiff Bull Shannon on Night Court for all nine seasons of its original run, died Oct. 26 in Big Bear Lake, California. He was 80.
