BYU scores 35 points straight, tops Umass

Zach Wil­son threw two touch­down passes to Talon Shumway and Al­eva Hifo ran for two and Brigham Young pulled away in the sec­ond half for a 35-14 win over Mas­sachusetts on Satur­day at the home of the New Eng­land Pa­tri­ots.

The Cougars (5-5) fell into an early 10-0 hole but Wil­son con­nected with Shumway for a 4yard score late in the first pe­riod and a 15-yarder late in the sec­ond for a 14-10 lead.

BYU con­trolled the sec­ond half with Matt Hadley and Hifo notch­ing scor­ing runs in the third quar­ter and Hifo get­ting his sec­ond early in the fourth.

The Min­ute­men (4-7), who won last year at BYU 16-10, led 10-0 af­ter a 2-yard touch­down run for Mar­quis Young and added a late 5-yard run by Ross Comis.

Wil­son was 13 of 21 for 160 yards and the Cougars added 180 yards on the ground. The de­fense held Umass to 199 yards with Isa­iah Kau­fusi mak­ing 14 tack­les. Mid­dle line­backer Bry­ton Barr had 13 tack­les for Umass, giv­ing him 135 for the sea­son and dou­ble fig­ures in nine games. He is in his sev­enth sea­son of col­lege foot­ball, sec­ond at
