AR­RESTS IN SHOOTING DEATH

Nampa po­lice ar­rest four adults and four teens in con­nec­tion with the fa­tal Sept. 25 shooting of a 16-year-old.

Nampa po­lice ar­rested four adults and four teenagers Thurs­day in con­nec­tion with the fa­tal shooting of a 16-year-old in Septem­ber, ac­cord­ing to a Nampa Po­lice Depart­ment news re­lease.

Roberto An­gel Gomez died at a hos­pi­tal from mul­ti­ple gun­shot wounds on Sept. 25. He was near 11th Av­enue North and Pow­ell Av­enue in Nampa when he was shot.

Two peo­ple are charged with first-de­gree mur­der: Mari­bel Men­chaca and Juan Men­chaca Olvera, a teenager, both of Nampa.

Crim­i­nal in­dict­ments al­lege that both Mari­bel Men­chaca and Juan Men­chaca Olvera, who are mother and son, shot Gomez. Men­chaca Olvera was also charged with rob­bery for al­legedly tak­ing money and a semi-au­to­matic hand­gun from Gomez.

The other six sus­pects are charged with aid­ing and abet­ting, ac­ces­sory, rob­bery or per­jury.

All of the teenagers are be­ing charged as adults.

With as­sis­tance from the Cald­well Po­lice Depart­ment and the United States Mar­shals Ser­vice, the fol­low­ing in­di­vid­u­als were ar­rested af­ter in­ves­ti­ga­tions:

Mari­bel Men­chaca,

42, of Nampa — first­de­gree mur­der and rob­bery.

Juan Men­chaca Olvera,

● 16, of Nampa — first­de­gree mur­der and rob­bery.

El­iz­a­beth Es­parza,

28, of Cald­well — ac­ces­sory to first-de­gree mur­der, aid­ing and abet­ting rob­bery, and per­jury.

Olivia Her­nan­dezSan­tana,

● 35, of Cald­well — ac­ces­sory to first-de­gree mur­der, in­tim­i­da­tion of a wit­ness and per­jury.

Jose M. Men­chaca,

39, of Nampa — aid­ing and abet­ting rob­bery.

Jose A. Men­chaca, 17,

● of Nampa — ac­ces­sory to first-de­gree mur­der, aid­ing and abet­ting rob­bery, and per­jury.

Isaac Ber­nal, 16, of

Nampa — ac­ces­sory to first-de­gree mur­der, and aid­ing and abet­ting rob­bery.

Gabriel Her­nan­dez

Olivo, 16, of Cald­well — aid­ing and abet­ting first­de­gree mur­der, aid­ing and abet­ting rob­bery, and in­tim­i­da­tion of a wit­ness.

Mari­bel Men­chaca was first ar­rested in Novem­ber on a sus­pected rob­bery charge af­ter she told po­lice that she took Gomez’s gold chain dur­ing a fam­ily con­fronta­tion that hap­pened just hours be­fore he was shot to death.

At the time, Mari­bel Men­chaca told po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tors that she was back­ing up her son when she con­fronted Gomez that day, ac­cord­ing to court doc­u­ments. She al­legedly ad­mit­ted to push­ing him and yank­ing the chain off his neck. When she was ar­rested, her son told po­lice that dur­ing his fam­ily’s con­fronta­tion with Gomez, his un­cle punched and knocked Gomez to the ground, and he ad­mit­ted tak­ing Gomez’s gun from the trailer.

Mari­bel Men­chaca faces an en­hance­ment for be­ing a per­sis­tent vi­o­la­tor be­cause she has prior felony con­vic­tions for drug pos­ses­sion, forgery and bur­glary.

The other sus­pects’ charges stem from be­ing present dur­ing the killing, ly­ing un­der oath or with­hold­ing in­for­ma­tion from po­lice, ac­cord­ing to copies of their in­dict­ments.

Their al­le­ga­tions in the in­dict­ments are as fol­lows:

Es­parza is ac­cused of ● fail­ing to tell Nampa po­lice that Juan Men­chaca Olvera was present when Gomez was shot. She also al­legedly aided and abet­ted Gomez’s rob­bery and is ac­cused of ly­ing be­fore a grand jury.

Her­nan­dez-San­tana is

● ac­cused of fail­ing to tell Nampa po­lice that Juan Men­chaca Olvera and Gabriel Her­nan­dez Olivo were present when Gomez was shot. She’s also ac­cused of in­tim­i­dat­ing a wit­ness from tes­ti­fy­ing fully and truth­fully in court, and she is ac­cused of ly­ing be­fore a grand jury, claim­ing Her­nan­dez Olivo was home the night Gomez was killed.

Jose M. Men­chaca is

● ac­cused of aid­ing and abet­ting the rob­bery of Gomez.

Jose A. Men­chaca is

● ac­cused of with­hold­ing in­for­ma­tion from law en­force­ment about Juan Men­chaca Olvera be­ing present dur­ing the killing and rob­bery. He also al­legedly aided and abet­ted they rob­bery of Gomez, and is ac­cused of ly­ing about it be­fore a grand jury.

Ber­nal is ac­cused of

● fail­ing to tell Nampa po­lice that Juan Men­chaca Olvera was present when Gomez was shot. He also al­legedly aided and abet­ted the rob­bery of Gomez

Her­nan­dez Olivo is

● ac­cused of aid­ing and abet­ting Juan Men­chaca Olvera while he shot Gomez. Her­nan­dez Olivo is also ac­cused of at­tempt­ing to in­tim­i­date a wit­ness from tes­ti­fy­ing truth­fully in court, and aided and abet­ted the rob­bery of Gomez.

“We can­not undo the loss suf­fered by the vic­tim and his fam­ily,” Nampa Po­lice Chief Joe Huff said in a news re­lease. “This was a high-pri­or­ity case, and these in­dict­ments re­flect the hard work and dili­gence of our of­fi­cers who iden­ti­fied the peo­ple in­volved in these crimes.”
